The Civil & Environment Engineering school of University of Science and Technology Beijing grew out of the Mining Department of Beijing University of Iron and Steel Technology . It is one of the earliest departments since the college was first set up. The Mining Department was made up of the Mining Department of Beiyang University and the Mining Department of North China University at that time. The university established the Department of Geology in 1980. Then the university applied different institutional management reforms to university, academy and department in November 1994 as well as consolidating original Mining and Geology Departments into Resources Engineering School. In January 2001, the new academy was renamed as the Civil and Environmental Engineering School according to the present situation and developing needs of the majors’ structure. Presently, it has one national key disciplinary area on “Mining Engineering”, four departments on “Civil Engineering”, “Environmental Engineering”, “Resources Engineering” and “Equipment Engineering”, two institutes on “Mining Engineering” and “Vehicle Engineering”.
