Introduction of Equipment Engineering Department
 
The Equipment Engineering Department set up in 2001 and made up of the Vehicle Institution and part of Civil and Environment Department. There are “Vehicle Engineering” and “Architecture Environment and Equipment Engineering” two second grade subjects. Presently, there are 5 professors, of which there are 3 doctoral supervisors, 7 vice professors, 3 senior engineers and 4 lecturers. It has qualified equipments and excellent technological conditions for teaching and scientific research.
 
Introduction of Environmental Engineering Department
 

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department was set up in 1995. it grew out of mineral separation teaching and research section, vehicle safety teaching and research section and part of Geology Department. It has a qualified teaching staff. There are 7 doctoral supervisors, 17 master supervisors, 8 professors. There are also two doctor degrees on “Safety Technology and Engineering” and “Mineral Processing Engineering”, four master degrees on “Safety Technology and Engineering”, “Mineral Processing Engineering”, “Biochemistry”, “Environmental Engineering”, and one undergraduate degree on “Environmental Engineering” as well as post doctoral scientific research mobile stations. Presently, there are over 500 undergraduate students, 180 postgraduate students, over 100 doctors and 10 post doctors.
 
Introduction of Resources Engineering Department
 
The Resources Engineering Department (originally the Mining Engineering Department) is one of the earliest departments of the university. The main subject “Mining Engineering” is the national key subject. This department is also one of the first approved to have doctoral subject on “Mining Engineering” and set up “Mining Engineering” postdoctoral scientific research mobile station in 1981. Then it got the right to give “Mining Engineering” doctor degree in 1978. In 2003, it was approved to build a key laboratory for “Metal and Mine Efficiently Exploiting and Safety”.

The Resources Engineering Department has a good cooperation relationship with many universities and institutions of Australia, German, Japan, Mongolia, etc. There are many overseas students enrolled in Mining Engineering area.

The good cooperation relationship with large scaled national enterprises helped solve many technological problems for these enterprises, while the department attributed many excellent graduates to them as well.

The Resources Engineering Department has a long history; many qualified teachers, completed mining subjects and advanced equipments. It will be an ideal place to get further education and do the scientific research.
 
Introduction of Civil Engineering Department
 
The Civil Engineering Department is set up in January 1997. There is one (part time) academician of China Engineering Institution, 6 doctoral supervisors, 11 professors, 9 vice professors and 4 senior engineers, of which there are 17 doctors (is 63% of all the staff) and 7 people holding the overseas degrees. The Civil Engineering Department only has one four-year undergraduate subject on “Civil Engineering”. However, there are four master degrees on “Engineering Mechanics”, “Rock soil Engineering”. “Structure Engineering” and “Natural adversities Preventing and Fighting Engineering and Protection Engineering”, two doctoral subjects on “Engineering Mechanics” and “Rock Soil Engineering”, two postdoctoral scientific research mobile stations on “Mechanics” and “Mining Engineering” and one engineering master subject on “Architecture and Civil”. Presently, there are about 500 undergraduate students, 200 postgraduate students, 73 doctors and 5 postdoctors.

There are 13 laboratories, such as Rock Soil Engineering Lab, Building Materials Lab, Structure Lab, Mineral Materials Lab. The open policy makes these labs not only meet the needs of teaching requirements, but also give good service to scientific research and engineering experiments.

The Civil Engineering Department also undertakes lots of scientific research tasks. There are 19 items carrying on, of which there are one national “The Fifteenth” key task to be tackled item, 3 national natural science funds, 2 national doctoral research funds of Ministry of Education.

What’s more, the Civil Engineering Department achieved a series of problems, such as road side slope strengthening, tunnel collapse management, roadbed collapse management, rock soil test, etc, and got its own characteristics and advantages.
